EXCLUSIVE: Blues in advantage after Tim Sherwood’s comment following Chris Davies appointment as new Birmingham City manager

Birmingham reportedly considered over 1,000 coaches and held talks with 40 candidates during their manager search, and CEO Garry Cook described Davies as an “outstanding coach and person” and the “perfect fit” for the club.

Davies has never had a managerial role before, so some Blues supporters may be anxious about his appointment, but comments from former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood should ease any fears.

Davies was said to be on the radar of Swansea City in December following the sacking of Michael Duff, and speaking at the time, Sherwood said the 39-year-old would be a huge loss for Spurs if he made the move to South Wales.

“They lose a very good coach, who is very experienced at this level as well,” Sherwood said on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday.

“He worked with Brendan Rodgers for numerous years.

“He’s very diligent, he was on my Pro License, I know Chris very well.

“He’s diligent in his approach, fine details on the training pitch, he obviously takes the information from Postecoglou in how he wants to set up the team, and he puts sessions on to accommodate it.

“I think he’s done a brilliant job, and he’ll be a big miss.

“I’m not sure how many sessions Postecoglou actually takes himself, he certainly sets the blueprint for the coaches, and Ryan Mason’s there as well.”

Davies has coached at Swansea, Liverpool, Reading, Celtic, Leicester City, and Tottenham, achieving significant success at each club. Sherwood’s comments highlight his high regard in the field.

While his appointment is a gamble for the Blues, being considered for Championship vacancies in the past underscores his talent. Additionally, giving opportunities to young, emerging coaches has proven to be a successful strategy in League One in recent years.
