“What’s the point of that? You didn’t hear the speech that Garry Cook gave when Rooney came in” – Simon Jordan question Birmingham City owners following Tony Mowbray appointment

The owners of Birmingham City FC made a controversial decision to let go of John Eustace back in October after taking the club to the sixth place in the Championship.

John Eustace was replaced with Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney who had a bad form with the club taking them from sixth to twentieth before being sacked.

Wayne Rooney was let go by the Blues after a 3-0 defeat on New Year’s day and since then a search for a new manager emerged with the likes of Tony Mowbray, Steve Cooper and Steve Spooner as interim manage.

Their search for a new manager came to an end after the owners of the club saw former Sunderland manager, Tony Mowbray fit to take the Blues to the next level and deliver the kind of results that Wayne Rooney couldn’t.

“Tony is a widely respected figure in the game and brings a wealth of Championship experience. He knows what it takes to be successful at this level. Tony has rightfully earned a reputation as a manager who delivers results, likes to play attractive football, and gives young players a chance,” Cook said.

“He is the right leader at the right time for our club and I know that our supporters will be right behind him and the team.”

However, following Tony Mowbray’s appointment as Birmingham City manager and as they expect to see his professionalism come to play on Saturday, Simon Jordan has reacted to the appointment.

Jordan has questioned Birmingham City owners what the essence of the whole Wayne Rooney appointment controversy is all about.

Jordan says Mowbray is a sensible appointment for Birmingham, but after turning back to an experienced manager, he questioned the point of the Rooney experiment.

“It’s alright, but you wonder what the purpose of the exercise was,” Jordan said on talkSPORT.

“What was the point of taking John Eustace out to put Wayne Rooney in to go back to a steady pair of hands?

“It’s okay, he couldn’t get Sunderland where they wanted to go, I think perhaps because he spoke out of turn and the owner got the hump with it, Blackburn Rovers a little bit the same, but it’s okay.

“You’re not going to have any dramas at Birmingham, you might give yourselves a chance of the play-offs, not this season, that’s gone.”

In a debate with co-host Graeme Souness, Jordan doubled down on his previous criticisms of Cook, blaming him for the decision to appoint Rooney.

“You didn’t hear the speech that Garry Cook gave when Rooney came in and set out the parameters of what Rooney was going to do, fearless football and all of this sort of nonsense that gets trotted out by people who seem to want to say things without any substance behind it,” Jordan said.

“That’s the reason why I’m very critical here, the owners themselves, sometimes we make decisions because we think we can make decisions from one industry translating to another.

“But if you’ve got someone like this guy alongside you, what’s the point of having him there? What’s the point of that?”
