“He doesn’t need to apologize, the player that’s not even ours puts in the most effort, he’s the only player worth his salt” – Birmingham City fans thinks Stansfield should not be apologizing, say he’s been the best all season

Jay Stansfield has issued an apology for his response to the chants from Birmingham City fans after the 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town. Despite the missed opportunity, Blues are still fighting to avoid relegation with one game left in the season.

Koji Miyoshi put Blues ahead just before half-time, but Huddersfield quickly equalized at the start of the second half through Rhys Healey. With the Terriers all but confirmed for relegation, Blues must now secure a win against Norwich City in their final game at St Andrew’s next Saturday and hope that results elsewhere favor their survival bid.

Blues supporters, who packed out the away end at the John Smith’s Stadium, voiced their anger and frustration at the full time whistle and aimed ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt’ chants at members of the squad as they headed over to acknowledge the following at full time.

Stansfield was visibly bemused by the chants, and reacted accordingly before being guided away by Lukas Jutkiewicz.

Fulham loanee Stansfield, Blues’ leading scorer this season with 13 goals, issued an apology on Sunday morning for his actions. Despite his good performance in a challenging year for the club, he also delivered a rallying cry ahead of the crucial Norwich clash, marking the end of his successful loan spell.

“Yesterday was a tough one to take and I am sorry to all the Blues fans for the way I acted after the game,” Stansfield posted on Instagram. “Fans have been amazing all season. We have a massive game on Saturday and we all need to stick together. @bcfc.”

However, there was a twist in his aplogy as users of the X app formerly known as Twitter saw no reason for the lad to apologize stating that he was the best player this season and that their chants weren’t targeted towards him.

These are some of the responses from X users.

Ian wrote: He doesn’t need to apologise, he’s give everything. The others need to have a long hard look at themselves coz theirs a loan player there that cares more than them!

Clive Robinson says: Don’t worry Lad you have been nothing short of magnificent for Bcfc . Tieless running etc with very little quality service yet still scored 13 goals. Thank you for efforts you have a great career ahead of you . Enjoy you deserve it. Kro
